One of the most unique and effective techniques that some chiropractic doctors offer to combat muscle and joint pains is low level laser therapy (LLLT). It is a deep tissue therapy that reduces inflammation and improved blood flow to promote healing.
Robert Silverman, Doctor of Chiropractic, explains in Chiropractic Economics Issue 4: March 14, 2017 that when muscles and tendons are injured “they release chemicals that set off the body’s natural inflammatory response.” Using the ICE method can temporarily relieve the pain. However for longer term pain relief, injunction without the use of dangerous drugs, LLLT is a great option.
Silverman writes “LLLT works by exposing injured tissue to coherent light at specific wavelengths– radiation in a band of the spectrum that has been scientifically shown to help relieve pain. Stimulation from the light helps the body use its own cellular resources to heal itself, without side effects.”
This technique can be used for patients who want to avoid harmful side effects of drugs such as opioids, steroids, nonsteoirdal anti-inflammatories. Silverman continued that opioids are known to give people a sedative feeling and depression. Generally they are known to constipate patients and also be highly addictive. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories are known to cause stomach bleeding and heart attacks. Diabetics are high susceptible to having high blood sugar when taking steroids.
